Barbados: SBRC Procures Equipment Through NSG

Sustainable Barbados Recycling Centre Inc. - SBRC - invested in the services of NSG to procure the bulk of their equipment for their start-up venture.

Opened in 2008, the SBRC facility, located near the current landfill in St. Thomas, has literally transformed the landscape of Waste Management in Barbados and NSG is proud to be associated with this forward thinking company.

SBRC was formed in early 2008, following the successful formation of a contract with the Government of Barbados to receive and process the waste streams previously being received at the Government Sanitary Landfill located at Mangrove in the parish of St. Thomas, Barbados.

The project has been developed as a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer contract (BOOT). Under the contract, SBRC will receive and process waste for a fee for a minimum period of ten years, after which the government has the option to purchase the facility. The principal objective of the facility is to divert waste from the Sanitary Landfill. The immediate benefit to the Government and to Barbados is less waste going to the landfill and an extended landfill life. Long term benefits are numerous, not least being the reuse of materials which ultimately would be replaced with imports if no recycling is implemented.

The SBRC facility is located at Vaucluse in the Parish of St. Thomas, Barbados, and is adjacent to the Mangrove sanitary landfill. The SBRC facility is on a 35 acre site. The facility commenced operations on 3rd June, 2009.
